Howdy Ombre! Mason Jar DIY

Friday, February 7, 2014

Our master bath was in SERIOUS need of some personality and storage. So instead of going shopping, we thought it'd be fun to make a wall hanging that was both pretty and functional. We came across the idea of a mason jar wall caddy and LOVED it - shocking I know. We were both super excited to get to work on it but then my mind of course started to wander (shocking again). Instead of being able to see completely through the jars I thought it would be fun to make them look like they had been dipped in silver! I've been wanting to try a project doing an ombre dying technique on wine/drinking glasses but my better half says we have too much glassware as it is - too much glassware?! Never. Anyway, I thought this would be a fun place to try the ombre look. We'll post the tutorial on the Bathroom Wall Caddy ASAP but for now I thought I'd share how the mason jars turned out!

First we wrapped some painters tape around the bottom of the jars.

Then wrapped the rest of the jar with plastic wrap and flipped it over.

Next, we sprayed the bottom using Krylon Silver Metallic Spray Paint.

We put it on an elevated surface. Then we angled the spray paint downward starting at the bottom, and used sweeping motions to create the ombre look.

Then flip and let dry.
