Welcome to Part Two of our DIY Mason Jar Chandieler! I'm going to do my best to explain this part but pardon the lack of technical knowledge! :) If you're taking this project on and have any specific questions you can always email us (flipwithlove@gmail.com).
At this point we have chosen the lengths of each light (we wanted ours to be random) and secured them with the black rubber ring from the original lighting kit and some electrical tape.
Once that's done you can organize the wires and secure with electrical tape. Then you can start wiring the fixture together. You connect the neutral wires to one another and secure with wire nuts as well as the lead wires.
Taking a photo of it just looked messy, so I found a diagram online I thought would help simplify the wiring (or atleast explain the general idea).
Sorry for this photo we had to turn off the power so that's the magical glow of our head lamps!
We already had a hanging fixture in the space but it was in the wrong spot. We decide where we wanted to place it then located a stud/beam in the ceiling and snaked the wiring over with a coat hanger (don't forget to turn the power off!) Once we found the stud we took two wood blocks and secured them to the ceiling using four long wood screws and an impact driver.
After the blocks were up I braced and held the light up while Joe connected the end wiring to the wires from the ceiling and then we moved the wine crate into place. Using the a drill and the impact driver we drilled holes through the crate into the wood blocks, so they wouldn't splinter or crack when we put in the screws. Then we secured it with two screws on each side and checked to be sure it was solid!
It even looks nice during the day!
P.S. I'm obsessed with everything that finally arrived for our dining room!
The rug, chargers, and table runner were all awesome Target finds and the chairs were a total steal from Overstock.com.
