DIY Mason Jar Chandelier Part One!

Monday, December 16, 2013

Our latest DIY project is one we've been planning for quite a while now and I'm so excited it's nearly finished! We figured it would be better to post this in two parts since there's quite a few steps - and because part two hasn't happened yet and I'm just too impatient not to share!

We started by purchasing the larger wide mouth mason jars at Walmart as well as the vintage Edison bulbs. The bulbs took a little online hunting, they are available at home improvement stores but there pretty pricey, so we ordered them for less!

Instead of buying individual light kits we bought THIS ONE from World Market and took it apart.

Then we traced each fixture onto the lid and cut it out.

Next we put the fixtures into the hole I'm the lid and twisted in the bulbs.

Time to decide where the lights would be hanging!

Then we drilled the holes

The next part was slightly tricky, when you first take a part the light kit be sure to keep ALL the pieces and organize them, you'll use it later.

Insert the 'top hat' looking pieces (very technical - I know) into each pre-drilled hole from the bottom.

On the inside secure with nut.

Feed the wires through from the bottom into the crate. Slide the small ring that was in the light kit onto the wire to help secure each wires length.

Decide how long you want each one to be then use electrical tape for extra security.

Part Two: The unveiling is coming soon!!
