Flour & Sugar Jars

In the middle of gutting our kitchen we started planning out how we would store and accessorize things. We agreed that we wanted to store the cereal in clear canisters to keep things organized and looking nice. So we figured storing the sugar and flour the same way would be the best way to go. I've seen those adorable country kitchen pictures all over Pinterest with the chalkboard labeled jars and became a little obsessed with the idea. Instead of the chalkboard though I decided to go ahead and label them with silver paint (it's gray with some sparkle - and I love me some gray).

My first attempt at this project was an epic fail. I used a foam brush and paint, no matter when I removed the stencils I was using the letters never came out right. Then I found this awesome spray painting kit from Martha Stewart at the local Michael's Crafts store and it totally turned things around.

Start by wiping down the jars with rubbing alcohol.

Next apply the stencils. I used the Martha Stewart Glass Adhesive Stencil Kit.

Instead of using the foam brush, like you see in this picture (oopsies forgot to take pictures of the other method), I used the Martha Stewart Spray Paint System.

*Make sure when you use the spray paint that you use a plastic bag to wrap around the rest of the jar, leaving a cut out for the desired area and securing the edges with tape. Wrapping it will keep any overspray from ruining the glass. Once they've dried a little remove the tape, plastic and then slowly peel off the stencil.
