When we started shopping for house wares I stumbled across some amazing gold chevron glasses and HAD to have them. Sadly, at $54 for a set of four I couldn't really justify the purchase, especially since we like to have friends over and need more than four glasses (cha-ching). I decided that I could figure out a way to have my own for less! My original plan worked okay for the first few glasses we did but then as usual - Joe came up with a MUCH better method, and we're super happy with the results.
Materials:
- Glasses
- Rubbing Alcohol
- Tape
- X-acto Knife/Razor
- Paint: Testors Spray Enamel
These glasses cost $5 from Wal-mart - awesome.
First, clean the glasses with rubbing alcohol and let dry.
Next, wrap painters tape tightly around the entire glass. Make sure you overlap a little and do your best to get all the bubbles out.
After you've wrapped them completely you can go ahead and draw your pattern. Once you've drawn your pattern you can use a razor, x-acto knife or box cutter to cut out the patten and peel it off.
(*BTW: Be sure to always cover the top rim of the glass with tape and start your pattern below where you'll be drinking from, to avoid drinking chemicals over time.)
When all that has been done, take them outside and paint away! The paint we used was Testors Spray Enamel in gold, you can find it at Michael's crafts store.
And now they are finally living in our new kitchen!
Last one cause they're pretty :)
Since we already had the x-acto knife, tape and rubbing alcohol (all things most people have at home or you can pick up at the local drug store) we spent around $40 total on this project and now have 16 glasses, so we can have lots of friends over!
