Barstool Makeover!

Tuesday, August 27, 2013

There has been a bit of a theme that has taken over since we started moving into our new house - reusing & repurposing pretty much EVERYTHING and so far, it's working out! Our latest redo was a pair of wooden barstools Joe has had since he moved into his first apartment (I'm not aloud to say how long ago that was - age sensitive). They were the perfect height of the breakfast bar in our kitchen. We decided we would paint them and add some cushion so they'd be a lot more comfortable to hang out on and enjoy while cooking or having guests over. Since we couldn't find a fabric we loved so we ended up using a pillow case from a sheet set. It was a win win, we now have great stools and bedding for guests, all for $25.00 from Homegoods (score!).  We're totally in love with how they turned out!

What you need...
  • Bar stools
  • Sanding paper
  • BIN Spray (only if your painting a light color over)
  • High gloss white paint or whatever color you want (spray paint or regular)
  • Foam pads
  • Batting
  • Fabric
  • Staple gun

We used foam and batting we got from Walmart

After the stools had been sanded, BINed and painted white we were ready for fabric!

Our awesome Homegoods find!

Only needed one pillow case that was cut open - the other we have for guests!

You first place the foam pad against the top of the stool, with the padding over top.

Then work your way around with the staple gun - pulling the batting tightly over edges.

Once you're done with that you can go ahead and measure and cut your fabric!

Repeat the same process after cutting out the fabric. Be sure to fold the edges under as you wrap around the stool, for a more finished and even look.

and TA DA!
