Holla! Our First Doormat!

Tuesday, June 25, 2013

We haven't actually moved in yet, but who says you have to move in before you get your doormat? We're not boring welcome mat kind of people so it had to have some personality. We found some pretty good ones but they we're all a little pricey. So instead of paying $50-$60 for something well literally, walk all over (ha.. Get it) we made our own. We ordered our mat from Overstock.com for around $20. The only other things we needed for this project was a little spray paint, Krylon Easy Tak and card stock. Check it out!

First, choose your welcome mat and what you want it to say (ours was overstock).

Next, you're going to print or your word or design onto card stock. Using an x-acto knife you're going to cut out the design and place it the way you'd like to see it on the mat.

Then you're going to secure each letter by spraying the back with Krylon Easy Tak and then pressing it back onto the mat. The Easy Tak will keep the letters from moving and give you cleaner lines. After they are stuck on well you will cover the remaining area with magazine or newspaper.

Go ahead and spray away! Once you're done leave the card stock and magazine on the mat - resist the urge to check how it looks! I waited till the next morning for the big reveal and it was awesome.
